New media workshops planned for spring 2013

Chris Snider and Justin Wise will lead these four workshops in Meredith Hall. They are sponsored by the E.T. Meredith Center for Magazine Studies at Drake University.

Creating a blog/site using WordPress.org

Saturday, March 9 | 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. | Meredith 104

What you will learn: In this hands-on class, you will purchase a domain name, launch a WordPress site and learn to make some basic modifications to your WordPress theme. Emphasis will be put on creating a personal portfolio website, but all website will be discussed. Instructor: Chris Snider

Cost: $50 if you sign up in advance. $75 at the door. Free for Drake students/staff who sign up in advance. It is recommended that you purchase a domain name and hosting during the session for roughly $50.

Social Media for Business

Wednesday, March 27 | 6-8 p.m. | Meredith 104

What you will learn: Everyone says they’re frustrated with low response rates. Tweets, pins, updates, blog posts—no one’s clicking, but we’re really not sure why. Learn how to start getting results by intelligently measuring your social media efforts. Instructor: Justin Wise

Basics of HTML and CSS

What you will learn: Learn the basis of building websites using HTML and CSS in the morning. Then put your skills to use building your first web pages in the afternoon. Instructor: Chris Snider

Cost: $50 if you sign up in advance. $75 at the door. Free for Drake students/staff who sign up in advance.
