The Iowa Science Teaching Section of the Iowa Academy of Science hosted its fall conference October 15-16 on Iowa State University’s campus. The conference offered opportunities for science teachers to make connections with fellow teachers, share ideas and learn from each other.
Among the presenters, Drake School of Education faculty member, Dr. Jerrid Kruse, five current Drake School of Education students, and two Drake School of Education alumni.
Dr. Kruse held sessions on the following topics:
- Encouraging All Students to Participate in Science
- Rethinking Assessment
- Write for Iowa Science Teachers Journal
The following School of Education students presented their topics:
- Anna Broer presented Teaching 2 Things At Once: Content & Nature of Science
- Jaclyn Easter presented What’s Inside-Connecting the Earth’s Interior to the Nature of Science
- Dana Hansen co-presented with Dr. Kruse, Using Legos to Model the Nature of Science
- Melissa Simmermaker presented Infusing Science into an Established Literacy Curriculum
- Allison Smith presented Using Circuits with Young Children to Develop Their Understanding of Cycles
