The Chronicle of Higher Education recognized Drake University in its 2012 Great Colleges to Work For survey. The Chronicle singled out Drake for excellence in two categories: tenure clarity and process and teaching environment.
According to Drake employees’ responses, the University’s requirements for achieving tenure are clearly defined. Drake faculty also reported the University excels at recognizing innovative and high-quality teaching.
“Being recognized by The Chronicle of Higher Education in this way draws attention to what many of us know to be true: Drake University is a special place to pursue one’s professional aspirations,” says Venessa Macro, Drake’s director of human resources and assistant vice president of business and finance.
The Chronicle of Higher Education annually surveys professors, professional staff, and administrators at accredited U.S. institutions. The survey asks respondents to assess their institution in 12 categories unique to colleges.
In 2012, 294 institutions participated in the survey. The primary factor in deciding whether an institution received recognition was the employee feedback.
“The teaching environment is so central to achievement of our mission that it is particularly gratifying to be recognized in that category,” Macro says.
