Des Moines-area residents with a passion for vocal performance are invited to join the Drake University/Community Chorus. The group will begin rehearsals on Aug. 28.
The Drake University/Community Chorus is an ensemble that provides members of the central Iowa musical community, as well as Drake students and staff, the opportunity to sing masterworks of the choral repertoire. No audition is required to participate.
“The benefit to all singers is that they sing a widely varied repertoire in stimulating rehearsal and performance situations,” says Aimee Beckmann-Collier, director of choral studies at Drake and conductor of the ensemble for more than 20 years. “While doing that, they enrich their vocal and musical skills and knowledge, and enhance their affective experiences.”
The chorus’ fall performance on Nov. 18 will include a Baroque piece by the German composer Telemann, and two contemporary pieces by American composers. A spring performance will feature Carl Orff’s “Carmina Burana” with the Des Moines Symphony.
Rehearsals are held Tuesdays from 6:30–8 p.m. in the Harmon Fine Arts Center. For more information or to sign up, contact Beckmann-Collier at aimee.beckmann-collier@drake.edu or 515-271-2841.
