Drake president honored by Character Counts in Iowa

Drake University President David Maxwell was recently selected to receive the 2012 Ray Pillar of Character Award. The annual award is the highest honor Character Counts in Iowa bestows upon individuals. Recipients of the award demonstrate good character and provide leadership to meet the organization’s mission.

Robert D. Ray, former Iowa governor and Drake president, founded Character Counts in Iowa in 1997. The organization helps Iowans practice and recognize good character in schools, workplaces, families, and communities.

Ray was presented with the Pillar of Character Award in 2003. Later the award was named in honor of him as the founder and board chairman of Character Counts in Iowa.

Maxwell will accept the award at the Iowa Character Awards banquet on Aug. 3.
