Drake to host the 2012 NCAA Track & Field Championships

The top college track and field athletes in the nation will compete in the NCAA Track and Field Outdoor Championships held at Drake University June 6–9. This is the third time Drake will host the event since 2008.

The preliminary championship competitions were held held in Florida and Texas in late May. Collegiate athletes from across the country will then come to Des Moines to compete in the prestigious, annual event.

Historic Drake Stadium is considered one of the premier track and field facilities in the country. It has hosted some of the greatest track and field meets and performances of all time. Since the $15 million renovation of Drake Stadium was completed in 2006, Drake has hosted numerous national events—solidifying its reputation as one of the best track and field venues in the United States. Drake’s long tradition of hosting a variety of track and field events helped Des Moines earn the name “Track Central USA.” The Drake Relays, which celebrated its 103rd year last month, attracts sellout crowds every year. Drake Stadium also hosted the 2010 USA Track & Field Outdoor Championships and will again host that event next year.

Tickets are now available for purchase. Single-session tickets are $20 for Wednesday and Thursday and $30 for Friday and Saturday. All-session tickets are $85. Order tickets online or call the Drake Athletics ticket office at 515-271-DOGS. More information, including the full schedule of events, can be found here.
