The Drake University School of Journalism and Mass Communication will offer two new classes this spring semester: Business Fundamentals for Communications Professionals and Social Media Strategies.
JMC 199: 6752 Business Fundamentals for Communications Professionals

To succeed in the new media marketplace, professional communicators must understand business fundamentals. This course provides students with grounding in core principles of finance, strategy, marketing, globalization, ethics and other areas that comprise contemporary business fundamentals. The course orients the subject matter toward the communications professions including journalism, public relations and advertising, as well as the corporate media environment.
JMC 99: 6489 Social Media Strategies

This class explores the role of social media in our everyday lives, from the way we communicate with our friends to the way businesses communicate with customers. Students will create and execute a personal social media strategy as well as creating social media strategies for businesses and organizations.
