Jazz combo night expands lineup

On September 14, Drake’s Jazz Combos will return with an expanded lineup of four ensembles. The performance will be held at 7 p.m. in the Patty and Fred Turner Jazz Center, located on the north end of the Harmon Fine Arts Center, 2505 Carpenter Ave. Seating is limited to 100. The performance is free and open to the public.

Each of the four combos will be comprised of at least five members each, thanks to continued and growing interest in Drake’s jazz program this year.

The concert will feature jazz standards from all styles and eras, as well as original tunes and arrangements.

Drake’s jazz curriculum focuses on direct application of all materials learned, and members of various combos play in professional ensembles in the Greater Des Moines area.

The state-of-the-art Patty and Fred Turner Jazz Center, where the ensemble will perform, was constructed thanks to a $1.5 million dollar gift by Drake alumnus and retired senior chairman of McDonald’s Corp. Fred Turner.
