DRAKE PHARMACY,
HEALTH SCIENCES STUDENTS HONORED AT PINNING CEREMONY

In May, more
than 100 third-year health sciences and professional pharmacy students took
part in the College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences Professional Development
Seminar and Pinning Ceremony.

The event featured presentations on professional etiquette, interview
techniques and capstone and rotation experience expectations. Students received
a pin and professional nametag to commemorate the beginning of their senior
capstone experiences.

“Collaborative learning is not limited to the classroom,” said Dean
Raylene Rospond, who spoke to students about the importance of their rotation
and capstone experiences.

“These capstones will be wide and varied, but each will provide valuable
learning and allow each of your to demonstrate and hone your knowledge, skills
and attitudes, while demonstrating your achievement of the educational
objectives of your individual academic programs.”

The ceremony also included an award presentation. Travis Gau received the Lon
Larson Engaged Practitioner Award, which was established in eponymous memory of
the Ellis and Nelle Levitt professor of pharmacy administration.

“I was positively
overwhelmed with gratitude and honor,” said Gau, of St. Cloud, Minn. “To know what
the Larson Award stands for humbles me.
Drake has exposed me to amazing people — educators,
classmates, colleagues and friends. The people here have reinforced my love of
learning and questioning, and I would not trade my Drake education for anything.”

Katelin
Zaeske of Fargo, N.D., received the Health Sciences Student Organization (HSSO)
Outstanding Health Sciences Student Award. Zaeske, president of the
organization, said that she was honored to receive the award.

“It is always amazing
to be noticed for the hard work that you put into an organization,” said
Zaeske. “This award meant a lot to me.”
