Since the campaign was announced Oct. 1, Drake has seen a passionate outpouring of support from alumni and friends. Some of the gifts inspired by distinctlyDrake include:
- An alumnus who was so impressed by Drake’s aspirations that he approached development staff just 15 minutes after the campaign launch to say he was interested in making a gift. The alumnus and his wife later committed $50,000.
- A former National Alumni Scholar who gave $200,000 after learning about the campaign’s vision and reflecting on his relationship with his alma mater.
- A recent graduate who committed $500 to the Drake Fund. After talking to a Drake staff member about distinctlyDrake, the young alumnus is considering a multi-year commitment of $5,000 to $10,000.
Their support demonstrates their belief in Drake’s ambitious goals but also shows their deep love for the University. Through their gifts, these alumni, and others like them, have been able to contribute to the future of a community they genuinely care about.
If you are interested in giving to distinctlyDrake, there is still time to give before the end of the calendar year. Gifts can be made online through Drake’s secure website. You can also contact Pam Pepper, director of development operations and annual fund programs, at 515-271-4558 with questions or credit card information.
Drake University will be closed for the holiday break from Dec. 23 to Jan. 3. However, the Office of Alumni and Development will be open from 8 a.m. to noon on Wednesday, Dec. 29 and Friday, Dec. 31 to process credit card gifts. Any gifts received after that time will be receipted in 2011.
There will be a number of distinctlyDrake events hosted throughout the United States beginning this winter. Drake University President David Maxwell will speak at each of the events along with a variety of students and alumni. Check the alumni calendar, included in this newsletter, to find an event near you.
