Drake clarinet professor to perform recital

News PhotoDrake University Professor of Music Clarence Padilla will perform a clarinet recital on Tuesday, Aug. 31.

The concert, which is free and open to the public, will begin at 8 p.m. on the Jordan Stage of Sheslow Auditorium in Old Main, 2507 University Ave.

Padilla, who joined Drake’s faculty in 1993 and serves as chair of the music department, has performed with a varied list of artists, including Yo-Yo Ma, Itzhak Perlman, Ray Charles and Patrick Stewart.

He is a member of the Des Moines Symphony Orchestra and former member of the Cedar Rapids Symphony Orchestra. Previously, he served as principal clarinet for the Laguna Beach Festival of the Arts Orchestra and the Long Beach Municipal Band in California.

Padilla holds a bachelor’s degree from California State University, Long Beach, and a master’s degree from the University of Southern California.
