The United Nations has proclaimed Sept. 8 to be International Literacy Day.  Greater Des Moines will recognize the importance of literacy at the Celebrate Community Literacy! event, jointly sponsored by the Des Moines Public Library and the Drake University Adult Literacy Center.  Celebrate Community Literacy at International Literacy Day, Wednesday, September 8, 2010 from 6:15 – 7:45 p.m. at the Des Moines Central Library – 1000 Grand Avenue – Meeting Rooms 1 & 2.

Literacy is key to our community’s strength and vitality.
Hear how our community is taking action to improve literacy for all.  Individuals and organizations who support literacy ar.e encouraged to attend, including Workforce, Education, Families, Health, Financial, Corrections, Social Programs, Faith Community, English Language Learners.  so please plan on attending and hear firsthand how our community is taking action to improve literacy for all.

The Literacy Across the Lifetime Panel will be moderated by Steven Pritchard, author of Misunderstood Minds and Lovers of the Flood.  Panel members include:
