INTERNATIONAL WOMEN’S PHARMACY ASSOCIATION RECOGNIZES DRAKE ALUMNA

Gloria Bernstein, PH’78, recently received the Lambda Kappa Sigma (LKS) 2010 Distinguished Service Citation Award in recognition of her outstanding dedication to the organization. [http://www.lks.org/]

LKS is a professional women’s pharmacy fraternity open to students and practicing pharmacists. Established in 1913, LKS currently has 22,000 members, 44 campus chapters and 36 alumni groups chartered internationally.

“It is indeed an honor to receive this award,” said Bernstein, who serves as pharmacy manager of Hy-Vee Food Stores Inc. in Des Moines. “The first LKS meeting I attended was the 1975 Midwest Regional Meeting in Detroit. I had just pledged that spring, and I was excited and nervous to be representing my collegiate chapter at Drake.”

Bernstein, who joined LKS in 1975, praised the fraternity for its commitment to the intellectual, professional and personal development of its members.

“I felt I was at home and that I was among students and professional women who were my sisters,” she said. “At LKS, I made friends for years to come.”
