Dialogue series to focus on rural development in India

Rural development in India will be the focus of the next event in the
International Dialogue Series, which is sponsored by Pioneer Hi-Bred
International, the Iowa Council for International Understanding and the
Drake University Center for Global Citizenship.

Jay Seghal and Sonia Skidmore will discuss “Empowering Rural
Communities in India” at noon on Tuesday, June 29. The event, which is
free and open to the public, will take place at the Greater Des Moines
Partnership, 700 Locust St., Suite 100. Those who attend are invited to
bring their own lunch.

Seghal is managing trustee and executive director of the Seghal
Foundation, which aims to build capacity in rural development and
poverty reduction in India through research and improvements in village
governance.

Skidmore, who has been researching issues of water scarcity in
India, will show her short documentary on successful water management
in the rural region of Mewat. She produced the documentary in
cooperation with the Institute for Rural Research and Development.

In addition to Drake, Pioneer and the ICIU, sponsors of the series
include the Greater Des Moines Partnership and the Des Moines Public
