Sol Varisco, program director of outreach services at Catholic Charities in Des Moines, will speak on Tuesday, Feb. 23, at Drake University about her experiences with refugees.

The talk is free to the public and will be held from 5:15-6:15 p.m. in Sheslow Auditorium, 2507 University Ave. It is part of “Where You Belong,” a series of presentations about immigration, homelessness and housing sponsored by Drake’s choral department.

The presentation series is a prelude to the “Where You Belong” concert, which will feature the Drake Choir, Chamber Choir and Drake University/Community Choir.

The concert is designed to help singers and listeners connect to key societal issues through music and to elicit a spirit of service in the community.

“Choral music is an especially important vehicle for helping people to understand that they are part of something much larger than themselves,” said Aimee Beckmann-Collier, Drake director of choral studies.

The concert will be on Sunday, April 18, at 3 p.m. in Sheslow Auditorium in Old Main, 2507 University Ave.

The presentation series will conclude with volunteer fair on Tuesday, March 2, from 5:15-6:15 p.m. in Sheslow Auditorium. The fair will feature
local agencies that provide help for immigrants, refugees and individuals dealing with housing issues.
