Drake Symphony to present Young Artists Concert

The Drake Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Akira Mori, will perform its annual Young Artists Concert on Sunday, April 26.

The concert, which is free and open to the public, will start at 8 p.m. on the Jordan Stage in Sheslow Auditorium in Old Main, 2507 University Ave. A reception, sponsored by Friends of Drake Arts, will follow in Levitt Hall in Old Main.

The program will feature the Drake students who won the Young Artist Competition: 

  • Leah McIntire, cello, a sophomore from Lamoni, Iowa
  • Eleanor Owens, voice, a senor from Verona, Wis.
  • Amy Pesek, flute, a sophomore from Springfield, Mo.
  • Chelsea Smith, voice, a junior from Ankeny, Iowa

 In addition, the orchestra will perform Schumann’s Symphony No. 1, also known as the “Spring” Symphony.
