Six outstanding alumni to be honored at annual awards
banquet

Drake University will honor six outstanding alumni at the
Annual Alumni Awards Dinner on Friday, May 16, in Parents Hall in Olmsted
Center. A reception will begin at 6 p.m. with dinner and the award program to
follow at 7 p.m.

The alumni award winners are:

  • Linda Robbins Coleman, FA’76; Alumni Achievement Award

year, several sororities and fraternities will host Relays events for alumni;

The Alpha Xi Chapter of
Tau Kappa Epsilon
fraternity will celebrate its 75th anniversary during Relays. Events include a chapter open house at 1316 34th Street on Saturday, April 26, starting at 11 a.m., and a reception and
dinner beginning at 6:30 p.m. that evening at the Embassy Suites on the
River, 101 East Locust Street, Des Moines. A silent auction will be held
at the reception and dinner to benefit the William H. Wisdom Scholarship

The women of Kappa Kappa
Gamma
invite KKG alumni to their Relays Open House on Saturday, April 26, from

The Phi Gamma Delta fraternity will host a cookout for graduate brothers at the chapter house
at 1236 34th Street on Saturday, April 26, beginning at 1 p.m. For

Delta Gamma alumnae and
their families are invited to the sorority’s annual Relays Brunch at the
chapter house, 1227 34th Street, on Saturday, April 26, from 11

If you
were a member of a social sorority or fraternity while you were a Drake
student, please also consider this your invitation to get involved in planning
Drake’s All-Greek Reunion in April 2009, in conjunction with the 100thrunning of the Drake Relays.

We
are seeking representatives of every Greek organization that has had a chapter
at Drake as well as ideas for reunion activities. Should we have a “Greek Idol”
version of an alumni Sweetheart Sing? Competitions to see which organization
can get the most alumni on campus for the fun? This is your reunion, so let’s

Pharmacy alumni invited to diabetes seminar on Relays weekend 

The 2008 Drake Relays Seminar: Annual Diabetes Update will
be held on Sunday, April 27. The annual program is sponsored by Drake’s College
of Pharmacy and Health Sciences and the Collaborative Education Institute. The
seminar will take place from 9 a.m. to 4:45 p.m. at the Hotel Fort Des Moines,
1000 Walnut Street, in downtown Des Moines.

“This event offers many opportunities to obtain
valuable information for your pharmacy practice, earn continuing education
credit, network with your professional colleagues and enjoy the 2008 Drake
Relays with your fellow alumni,” said Dean Raylene Rospond. “It is
just one of the many things Drake University’s College of Pharmacy and Health
Sciences is doing in an effort to train health care professionals so they can
provide specialized care for diabetes patients.”

Volunteer with fellow alumni, friends at the 2008 Des
Moines Arts Festival

Des Moines is proud of its nationally ranked annual arts
festival, and Drake is proud of the alumni and friends who volunteer in the
event’s Pepsi tents. Last year, these individuals helped raise more than $4,500
to support central Iowa alumni programs.

Volunteers are now invited to sign up for this year’s
festival, June 27-29, to be held in the Western Gateway Park area downtown. The
shift times will be as follows:

Saturday, June 28

9:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m.

Have fun, fun, fun with fellow alumni at the Hollywood
Bowl and Brian Wilson Sept. 13

Great American composer and the
mastermind behind “Pet Sounds,” “SMiLE” and countless hits,
Beach Boys co-founder Brian Wilson and his band will perform with the Los
Angeles Philharmonic at the Hollywood Bowl on Saturday, Sept. 13. “Be True
to Your School” by joining fellow Drake alumni and friends for this fifth
annual Drake night at the Bowl and fun, informal pre-concert picnic.

 

The Hollywood Bowl is located at
2301 North Highland Avenue, just off the Hollywood Freeway. The picnic will
begin at 6 p.m. at the Hollywood Bowl Picnic Area 15 at Highland and Camrose;
bring your own picnic supper and an appetizer or dessert to share. The concert will
begin at 8:30 p.m. Fireworks will follow the show.

Drake has a limited number of center seats in Section N2,
behind the “super seats,” available on a first-come, first-served
basis. Tickets are $25 per person. Please place your order as soon as possible
and no later than July 25 by calling Drake’s Office of Alumni and Parent
