Let’s
DU Lunch March 12, April 9

Enjoy
lunch and food for thought at Drake’s central Iowa lecture series, “Let’s
DU Lunch,” for all alumni and friends. Upcoming speakers:

  • March 12: Mike Tousley,
    president, Weitz Iowa
  • April 9: Stephen King,
    executive director, Downtown Events Group

Each
event begins with networking at 11:30 a.m. and lunch and speaker at noon at the
Polk County Convention Complex, 501 Grand Ave., Des Moines.

Cost
is $15 per event or $36 for all three spring luncheons. Reservations are

 Drake
Choir coming to northern Iowa, Minnesota’s Twin Cities this month

Catch
the outstanding Drake Choir and Chamber Choir when they perform in March in
Mason City, IA, and in Collegeville and Excelsior, MN, near the Twin Cities.

The
ensembles will sing repertoire by contemporary composers from the United
States, Spain, Australia and Hungary; works by Mozart, Haydn, Palestrina and
Morley; and folksongs and spirituals.

Drake’s
male a cappella ensemble, PickSix, will also perform. Receptions will be held
after the concerts in Mason City and Excelsior.

Tour concerts include:

  • Wednesday,
    March 12, 7:30 p.m. (NOTE TIME CHANGE), Trinity Lutheran Church, 213 N.
    Pennsylvania Ave., Mason City, IA
  • Thursday,
    March 13, 8:00 p.m., The Great Hall, St. John’s University, Collegeville,
    MN
  • Friday,
    March 14, 8:00 p.m., Mount Calvary Lutheran Church, 301 County Road 19, Excelsior,
    MN

The Drake Choir is the University’s select touring ensemble.
It has performed in Europe, made its debut in Carnegie Hall in 1998 and
returned there in June 2002.

The Chamber Choir, a select ensemble of 24 singers drawn
from the Drake Choir, has toured England and is the featured ensemble for Drake’s
annual Madrigal Dinners.

Have fun, fun, fun with fellow alumni at the Hollywood
Bowl and Brian Wilson Sept. 13

Great American composer and the
mastermind behind “Pet Sounds,” “SMiLE” and countless hits, Beach Boys co-founder Brian
Wilson and his band will perform with the Los Angeles Philharmonic at the Hollywood
Bowl on Saturday, Sept. 13.

“Be True to Your School”
by joining fellow Drake alumni and friends for this fifth annual Drake night at
the Bowl and fun, informal pre-concert picnic.

 

The Hollywood Bowl is located at
2301 North Highland Avenue, just off the Hollywood Freeway. The picnic will
begin at 6 p.m. at the Hollywood Bowl Picnic Area 15 at Highland and Camrose;
bring your own picnic supper and an appetizer or dessert to share. The concert will
begin at 8:30 p.m. Fireworks will follow the show.

Drake has a limited number of center seats in Section N2,
behind the “super seats,” available on a first-come, first-served basis.
Tickets are $25 per person. Please place your order as soon as possible and no
later than July 25 by calling Drake’s Office of Alumni and Parent Programs at
