The Drake University Journal of Agricultural Law and the Agricultural Law Center will hold a “2007 Farm Bill Discussion” event featuring speakers from Iowa’s Congressional delegation. It will be held 2 to 4 p.m. Thursday, March 9, at Sheslow Auditorium, Old Main, 2507 University Ave. The event is free and open to the public.

The discussion will include representatives from the offices of U.S. Senators Tom Harkin and Charles Grassley and U.S. Representatives Leonard Boswell, Jim Nussle and Steve King. The talk will focus on the future policy of the 2007 farm bill relating to agriculture and rural development; including the possibility of extending the 2002 farm bill through the end of 2006.

The Journal of Agricultural Law was the first journal in the nation dedicated to agricultural law at an accredited law institution and is celebrating its 10th anniversary of publication. The Agricultural Law Center is an internationally recognized center that provides opportunities to study how the legal system shapes our food system and influences the ability of the agricultural sector to produce, market and utilize agricultural products.

Speakers include John Moreland, staff of Sen. Harkin; Kevin Studer, staff of Sen. Grassley; Joe Huber, staff of Rep. Nussle; Tammy McAthey, staff of Rep. Boswell; and Wayne Brincks, staff of Rep. King. Mark Reisinger, state director of USDA Rural Development, will moderate.
