Wood remembered as a professor who didn't hesitate to profess
Psychology professor Scott Wood, who taught and conducted research at Drake for 36 years, died of cancer Nov. 23 at Kavanagh House. He was 65. "It is difficult to imagine this department operating without Scott Wood," said Steven Faux, chair of the Psychology Department. "We have suffered a great loss."

Drake CBPA partners with Chinese university
Drake has further cemented its budding partnership with the Southwest University of Political Science and Law in Chongqing, China, with a new agreement that will make it possible for Southwest University students to earn a Master of Financial Management or a Master of Accounting from Drake's College of Business and Public Administration.

Darling exhibition at Cowles sketches murky picture of 20th century politics
This January, Drake's Cowles Library will present a comprehensive exhibition of renowned editorial cartoonist and conservationist J.N. "Ding" Darling's drawings. Darling chronicled society's beat with some 15,000 cartoons that he produced between 1912 and 1962.

Smith leads Office of Alumni and Development
John P. Smith, AS'92, GR'00, has been named the vice president of alumni and development at Drake University. Smith began his Drake career in the admissions office in 1992 and climbed the ranks to the positions of associate director of alumni programs, gift planning officer and major gift officer.

Drake art students bend their creativity for works displayed at the Art Center
Earlier this semester, 10 Drake students from the department of art and design participated in a weeklong workshop, "Organic Bending," instructed by internationally acclaimed artist Shih-Chieh "CJ" Huang. The intensive, hands-on workshop took place Oct. 27 through Nov. 2 in Drake's Studio Arts Hall.

Iowa leaders in business, government and health care shared their views on Iowa's future during the Innovation and Leadership Conference at Drake on Friday, Nov. 17. Some 50 area professionals and academics participated as panel members and moderators, and 170 community members attended as participants.

New degree program starts next fall
Drake's College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences recently announced the launch of a new degree program that will allow students to earn a Bachelor of Science in Health Sciences. Starting next fall, incoming students can opt to enroll in the new four-year degree program.

Law School Moot Court team places first in regionals
The Drake University Law School National Moot Court team finished first in a field of 14 teams at the regional rounds of the National Moot Court Competition held Nov. 16-18 in Vermillion, S.D. Drake and the second-place team from the University of South Dakota will advance as one of 28 teams to compete at the national finals in New York City from Jan. 29 through Feb. 1, 2007.

When Todd Evans, professor of electronic media, developed the syllabus for his Podcasting and Blogging course that premiered this fall, he didn't predict the virtual explosion of online video media -- like Google's $1.65 billion acquisition of YouTube, for starters -- that has since transpired.
