On Wednesday, April 16, Drake University will host a special program for language immersion students from Merrill Middle School to celebrate Pan American Day.
The students will participate in Drake Spanish courses in the morning and have the opportunity to celebrate Pan American dance and music at a performance by Drake students in Olmsted Center in the afternoon. The dance and music celebration begins at 12:30 p.m. on Pomerantz Stage in the Olmsted Center and is free and open to the public.
Additionally, the Merrill students will demonstrate “Conjugarte,” a Spanish learning game they developed for Drake students to try Spanish verb conjugations and gain an appreciation of Latin American art.
Drake’s Pan American Day celebration is sponsored by Merrill Middle School’s International Baccalaureate Program, Drake University’s World Language and Cultures Program, and Drake’s Ritmo Latino Student Organization. The schedule of events is as follows:

Merrill students attend Drake’s Spanish 152 film class in Meredith Hall, Room 206 with Eduardo Garcia, assistant professor of Spanish
11–11:50 a.m.
Merrill students attend Spanish 002 language class in Meredith Hall, Room 229 with Eduardo Garcia, assistant professor of Spanish
11:50 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.
Lunch at Hubbell Dining Hall
12:30–1 p.m.
Pan American music and dance performance on the Pomerantz Stage in Olmsted Center
