Drake to host fifth annual Global Health Fall Conference, Oct. 16

hghc_poster1On Oct. 16, Drake will host the fifth annual Global Health Fall Conference, “Food Nutrition, and Health in a Changing World” from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. in Parents Hall in the Olmsted Center at Drake University. The conference, which is free and open to the public, is presented by the Heartland Global Health Consortium. Registration is required and includes lunch.

The Heartland Global Health Consortium is a group of colleges and universities in Iowa that have united in the interest of global health. The organization, founded in 2007, believes that global learning experiences benefit Iowa and the U.S. as a whole in all areas from economics to health care. The consortium strives to accomplish this by focusing on partnerships with other countries, research, and educational opportunities around the world.

The conference will feature several keynote speakers including Ruth Oniang’o, professor and founder of the Rural Outreach Programme in Kenya, Angie Tagtow, owner of Environmental Nutrition Solutions, and Ambassador Tony Hall, executive director of the Alliance to End Hunger. There will also be a panel of experts discussing food, nutrition and health, and poster presentations that display student research on global health.

The conference is sponsored by DuPont Pioneer, the World Food Prize, The Principal Financial Group Center for Global Citizenship, the Global and Comparative Public Health program, and Heartland Global Health Consortium.
