Drake University to host Iowa Rehabilitation Association 2013 Brag and Steal Conference

The Drake University Iowa Rehabilitation Association (DU-IRA), a graduate student organization, is hosting the 2013 Brag and Steal conference on Friday, June 21 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Drake’s Olmsted Center, 2875 University Ave. The conference is open to the public.

Brag and Steal is an annual training offered through the Job Placement Division of the Iowa Rehabilitation Association. This conference is intended for professionals who are working with individuals who have some barrier to employment. Conference attendees include those who serve individuals with disabilities and professionals who work with immigrants, older individuals, or others who face difficulties getting into the labor market.

“We hope this conference will help people better understand how to work with businesses and break down barriers,” says Rosemary Thierer, president of DU-IRA. “We also hope it will allow people to make connections within the rehabilitation communities.”

This year’s theme is “Speaking the Same Language,” and will include a keynote address from Tony Wilson, a facilitator and life coach at Central City Development Corporation. Wilson will explore the challenges that rehabilitation and vocational professionals face on a daily basis, and provide insight on best practices for remaining motivated. Breakout sessions will be offered on technology, ethical responsibilities, and post-trauma support services, among others.

To register for the conference, contact Terry Thomas at 515-710-0285 or Terry_Thomas710@yahoo.com. Special registration pricing is available for students, IRA members, and DU-IRA members. Regular registration is $60.
