The Principal Financial Group Center for Global Citizenship will host a panel discussion on U.S. foreign policy and the elections on Monday, Oct. 29 at Drake University. Arthur Sanders, Ellis and Nelle Levitt Professor of Politics and associate provost; Ellen Pirro, adjunct instructor in politics and international relations; and Kieran Williams, visiting assistant professor of politics, will serve as panelists. The event will take place from 7:30-9 p.m. in Meredith Hall Room 106 and is free and open to the public.
Sanders teaches classes on various parts of the American political process, comparative political parties, and interest groups. His research has focused on the formation and dynamics of public opinion; the role of the media; and the impact of money, political parties, and interest groups on the U.S. political process. In 2007, Sanders published his fourth book on American politics titled Losing Control: Presidential Elections and the Decline of Democracy.
Pirro academic interests include international relations, Western Europe, comparative politics, research methodology, developing areas, international law, and women and politics. As a member of many organizations, including the American Political Science Association and International Studies Association, she has published papers on the European Union, Africa, women’s health, and foreign policy.
Williams is a visiting assistant professor at Drake. He is the author of The Prague Spring and its Aftermath: Czechoslovak Politics, 1968-70. Additionally, he has co-authored two books: Security Intelligence Services in New Democracies: The Czech Republic, Slovakia and Romania and Embodying Democracy: Electoral System Design in Post-Communist Europe.
