School of Education receives distance learning award

The Drake University School of Education received one of 15 International Distance Learning Awards at the United States Distance Learning Association’s (USDLA) Annual Conference in St. Louis, Mo., on April 30. USDLA is the world’s most comprehensive distance learning association with 20,000 global sponsors and members who influence 46 percent of the $913 billion United States education and training market.

USDLA judges reviewed applications from higher education, K-12, government, corporate and military programs. The 15 awards were presented in four specific categories. The School of Educations award was one of the four programs recognized for Best Practices in Distance Learning Programming – Online Distance Learning for its course, Anti-Bullying: Where to Start.

Anti-Bullying: Where to Start, is an eight week, three hour graduate credit course designed to assist educators in recognizing what they might do to halt the progression of bullying and improve the culture and climate of their classrooms. The Drake project leaders felt especially honored to be recognized alongside award-winning projects from NASA, Homeland Security and the University of Nebraska. Credit goes to Chuck Sengstock, director of extension education; Jean Hansen, online instructional designer; and Susen Schirmer, content developer and instructor.
