Drake welcomes visitors for 2011 Parents and Family Weekend

Drake University will welcome students’ parents and family this weekend with a packed schedule of events Friday, Sept. 16-Sunday, Sept. 18. The following activities are planned:


FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 16

4-5 p.m.: Yoga on the lawn, Helmick Commons

4-7 p.m.: Plant sale, Stalnaker Hall Lobby; Fish sale, Crawford Hall Lobby

5-7 p.m.: Information table, Olmsted Center

Pick up meal and sporting event tickets and Fun Run T-shirts.

7:30 p.m.: Drake Jazz Ensemble I and II at Performing Arts Hall, Fine Arts Center

8 p.m.: Dueling Pianos Show, Sheslow Auditorium

Sponsored by Student Activities Board.

7-9 p.m.: Sixth Annual Red Dress Gala, Olmsted Center, Parents Hall

Dancing, dinner, and a silent auction. Wear you favorite red dress or tie. Sponsored by Alpha Phi.

SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 17

8:30 a.m.: Drake Fun Run/Walk, begins on Helmick Commons

$7 entry fee; includes a T-shirt and post-run food. The 2k route circles campus and ends in the world famous Drake Stadium.

8″“1 p.m.: Information Table, Olmsted Center

Pick up meal and sporting events tickets

10″“11 a.m.: Coffee and conversation, Pomerantz Stage, Olmsted Center

Meet Drake’s President David Maxwell and the 2011 Drake Parents of the Year. Sponsored by Drake Parents Board.

11 a.m.-12 p.m.: Study Abroad session, Olmsted Center, Bulldog Theater

Learn about study abroad experiences from the staff and the traveling students and their parents

1″“3 p.m.: Movie matinee featuring “The Green Lantern,” Olmsted Center, Bulldog Theater

1-3 p.m.: Intramural poker tournament at the Bell Center, 1421 27th St.

   

3 p.m.: Sweetheart Sing, Sheslow Auditorium, Old Main

“Rock and Roll Hall of Fame” Fraternity/sorority vocal and skit show benefiting the Children’s Cancer Connection.  No tickets sold at door.

4:30-5:30 p.m.: Tailgate at the west lots of Drake Stadium (Rain location, Hubbell South Dining Hall)

$6.25 in advance, $7.25 at the door.

7 p.m.: Drake Football vs. Missouri Science and Technology at Drake Stadium

Tickets $5 in advance, $12 at the door; Drake students free with ID

7:30 p.m.: Drake Choir concert with the Des Moines Symphony, Des Moines Civic Center

Tickets range from $15 to $55 for adults; students half price

   

SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 18

10″“1 p.m.: Parents and Family Brunch, Hubbell Dining Hall

12 p.m.: Drake Women’s Softball vs. Minnesota State at Buel Field

2:30 p.m.: Drake Choir concert with the Des Moines Symphony, Des Moines Civic Center

Tickets range from $15 to $55 for adults; students half price
