Drake CPHS faculty honored at 2011 Pharmacy and Health Sciences Day

Drake faculty, alumni and students were presented with awards at the annual Pharmacy and Health Sciences Day held on Friday, March 4. College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences faculty awards for 2011 are as follows:

Lisa Gardner, associate professor of statistics, as Teacher of the Year outside of the College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences;

Jennifer Tran, director of student programs, as Teacher of the Year;


Renae Chesnut, associate dean for academic and student affairs and associate professor of pharmacy practice, as Mentor of the Year;

Andrew Miesner, assistant professor of pharmacy practice, as Faculty Preceptor of the Year;

Bethany Sather, community pharmacist with Target Pharmacy and adjunct assistant professor, as Pharmacy APPE Preceptor of the Year;

Emily Beckett, patient educator pharmacist with Iowa Lutheran Hospital and adjunct instructor, as Pharmacy IPE Preceptor of the Year;

Kelly Eastin, inpatient therapy manager with ChildServe and health sciences preceptor, as Health Sciences Preceptor of the Year.

The C. Boyd Granberg Professional Leadership Award was presented to Denise Soltis, assistant dean for clinical affairs and assistant professor of pharmacy practice, in recognition of her dedicated service to professional pharmacy organizations, demonstration of personal leadership traits and commitment to advancing the pharmacy profession.

In addition, the Hartig Distinguished Professor Award recognizes a faculty member who has distinguished him/herself in
teaching, scholarship, service or practice and acknowledges uniqueness,
innovation and creativity. This year’s recipient was Craige Wrenn,
associate professor of pharmacology.

The Hartig Faculty Development Award was established to further the pursuit of faculty development
activities that educate, encourage and enhance entrepreneurism in
community pharmacy practice or ownership. This year, Carrie Koenigsfeld,
associate professor of pharmacy practice, and Nora Stelter, assistant
professor of pharmacy practice, were both honored for their project
working with the Drake student chapter of APhA-ASP raising awareness
about the dangers of prescription drug misuse and abuse to middle and
high school students as well as to community organizations and senior
centers.
