Head Start Attends Health Care Institute Training

On March 3rd and 4th, a team of six Drake University Head Start members participated in the Johnson & Johnson Health Care Institute Train-the Trainer, Health Literacy Training in St. Louis, Missouri. Heidi Ball, Health Manager for the Drake University Head Start program. Donna Dickerson, Kathy Lehman and Laurie Wirtz all nurses for Des Moines Public Schools. Jeanette Luthringer the Child Wellness and Student Services Manager representing Visiting Nurse Services of Des Moines, and Dr. Carolyn Beverly of Des Moines University attended as community partners.
The mission of the Health Care Institute is designed to better prepare parents to address the health care needs of their children. The training also strives to provide Head Start agencies tools and the resources to lead an effective health care training program through empowerment and dissemination of knowledge.
Together this group will be working toward a plan of incorporating this training into the Drake University Head Start Program.
