SPJ Mark of Excellence winners

Six Drake University students won awards, including two for first place, in the Society of Professional Journalists Region 7 Mark of Excellence competition.

First-place finishers Sarah Andrews and Jason Oelmann will advance to the national SPJ competition. National winners will be named in early May.

Results were announced Saturday in Overland Park, Kan. Region 7 is made up of universities and colleges in Iowa, Nebraska, Missouri and Kansas. Read the complete list of winners.

Sarah Andrews won first place for feature photography for the Times-Delphic.
Ari Curtis won third place for feature photography for Urban Plains magazine.
Jason Oelmann won first place for photo illustration for Drake Magazine.
Nicole Salow won third place for this Think magazine photo illustration.
Nicole Salow won third place for photo illustration for Think magazine.

 

Rachel Vogel won second place for non-fiction magazine article for Think magazine.

 

Laura Johnson won third place for non-fiction magazine article for Urban Plains magazine.
