U.S. Air Force jazz band to present guest concert at Drake

The Noteables, the United States Air Force Heartland of America Band jazz ensemble, will perform a guest concert at Drake University on Wednesday, March 30.

Free and open to the public, the event will be held at 8 p.m. on the Jordan Stage in Sheslow Auditorium in Old Main, 2507 University Ave.

Drake Jazz Ensemble Two, under the direction of Drake’s Associate
Professor of Saxophone James Romain, will open for The Noteables. The
group will perform pieces by Thad Jones, Sonny Rollins and Phil Woods.

The Noteables, formed in 1943, is an Air Force squadron comprised of professional musicians whose backgrounds include advanced degrees in music performance. Various incarnations of the ensemble tour extensively, performing more than 450 concerts annually.

The band, currently under the direction of Captain Michael D. Hoerber, has performed with renowned musicians including Frank Mantooth, Frederick Fennel, John Denver and Wycliffe Gordon.
