Drake football team honored for academic improvement

The Drake football program was recently honored by the Football Championship Subdivision Athletics Directors Association for showing the greatest improvement in the Academic Progress Rate among the 10 member schools of the Pioneer Football League.

Drake will receive its award during the Football Championship Subdivision Athletics Directors Association Luncheon sponsored by Borden Perlman Insurance Agency, June 22, in conjunction with the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics Convention in Anaheim, Calif.

“We feel as though our program is moving forward in many areas,” said Drake Head Football Coach Chris Creighton. “Our team takes pride in competing at the Division 1 level without compromising in the academic arena.”

In addition, the association recognized the inaugural recipients of the Academic Progress Rate Award at each of the 14 football championship commission conferences that posted the highest progress scores.
