The Drake Chorale ensemble will be featured at the Meet the Composer Festival concert on Sunday, Feb. 21 at 4 p.m.

The festival, which will be comprised of a workshop and concert, will be held at the First Baptist Church, 8250 N.W. 62nd Ave. in Johnston, Iowa.

Concert tickets, which cost $10 for adults and $5 for children and students, may be reserved by calling the Heartland Youth Choir at 515-221-3922.

Director of the Drake Chorale Barbara Sletto is the founder and artistic director of the Heartland Youth Choir, which has sponsored the Meet the Composer Festival since 2008.

The Drake Chorale is a select women’s ensemble of 30-36 singers. The choir recently performed with the Des Moines Symphony and frequently has collaborated with other collegiate women’s ensembles.

Singers in the Chorale are both music majors and students majoring in academic disciplines from all colleges and schools of the University.

Mark Sirett, artistic director of the Cantabile Choirs of Kingston, Ontario, will serve as composer in residence for the festival, providing three new compositions for performance by the top four Heartland Youth choirs and Drake Chorale.

The Meet the Composer Festival aims to provide its choirs and community with the opportunity to experience the music of an internationally renowned living composer.

Sletto has also served as the Artistic Director of the Iowa Youth Chorus, the Des Moines Children’s Choruses, the Anderson Area Children’s Choir of Anderson, Indiana, and the Lakes Treble Choir of Minnesota.
