CONTACT: Lisa Lacher, (515)271-3119, lisa.lacher@drake.edu

Drake University’s Billie and Robert D. Ray Lifelong Learning Society will hold its annual meeting at 3 p.m. Wednesday, June 7, in Sheslow Auditorium in Old Main, 2507 University Ave.

The meeting and the reception that follows in Levitt Hall are open to those who wish to learn more about the RaySociety and the classes and events that it will offer for retirement-age people during the 2006-07 academic year.

The society takes its name from a pair of distinguished Drake alumni, former Iowa Gov. Robert D. Ray, who also served as the University’s president, and Billie Ray, former first lady of Iowa and a former schoolteacher. Billie Ray is scheduled to attend Wednesday’s meeting and participate in the recognition of instructors who taught RaySociety courses this academic year.

The RaySociety has approximately 400 members. The annual membership fee is $50. Classes, which will start again in the fall, meet during the day, Monday through Friday, and are taught by volunteer instructors from the current and former Drake University faculty, from the society membership and the community. The registration fee is $25 per class.
